A lovely Minton Parian group of the Flight into Egypt.

This beautiful, uncommon group shows Mary with the infant Jesus seated on an ass. It depicts the family’s flight into Egypt from Herod.

The group has the Minton ermine mark and is dated 1853. It is illustrated in The Parian Phenomenon page 69, fig 96 where it states that an example of this group was shown at the Great Exhibition 1851 and suggests it is copied from a painting by the Spanish artist Murillo (1617 – 1682).

Condition: One of the donkey’s ears and a foot of the child have been professionally restored. There is a small chip underneath the base and a firing line on the front of Mary’s gown.
