A rare pair of Parian busts of Albert Edward and Alexandra, the Prince and Princess of Wales, by John Rose (later Coalport), 1863.
The Prince of Wales succeeded his mother, Queen Victoria in 1901 as King Edward VII.
These busts show a somewhat idealised depiction of the young royal couple in their wedding year. The Princess’s bodice has a fine edging. The socles are attached to the busts with slip. The busts are illustrated in the Parian Phenomenon on page 244, fig 822.
Condition: Excellent. There is some grey shading to the underside of the socles from the manufacturing process.
Heights: Each bust is 34cm (13.5”) high.
