A Copeland Parian bust of Prince Albert Edward, dated 1863

A good bust of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made for the Crystal Palace Art Union from the sculpture by Marshall Wood and marked Copeland August 1863. This bust, showing the prince in a Roman-style toga,  was issued as a pair with the bust of Princess Alexandra by Miller to mark the engagement of Albert Edward and Alexandra, and reissued subsequently to mark their marriage. Height: 31½cm (12½“)

The bust is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 183 figure 601 and in Robert Copeland’s book “Parian - Copeland’s Statuary Porcelain” page 237, fig R8.

Condition  This bust is in excellent condition with just some minor chipping round the top of the socle and some faint pink staining, slso round the top of the socle, from the red felt used under the socle bolt.
