A Copeland Parian bust of The Mother
A charming bust of The Mother by Copeland, dating from c 1871 – 1880, from the sculpture by Monti, showing the sympathetically modelled young married woman with her baby. This piece was made as a companion bust to the famous veiled Bride by Monti. It is marked "R Monti 1871 Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union Copyright reserved Copeland".
This bust is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 180 fig 586 and in Robert Copeland’s book “Parian - Copeland’s Statuary Porcelain” page 218 fig B52.
Size: 36cm high x 23cm wide (14¼” x 10”)
Condition: Chipping at rear just above socle and to the equivalent socle section. Staining to “fabric” below lower left shoulder and light staining in signature area. Otherwise this bust is in excellent condition.
