A sensitively modelled Copeland Parian figure of the Reading Girl, taken from an 1838 marble original which was sculpted by P Macdowell and placed in Bridgewater House. This Parian version was commissioned by the Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union in 1869. The figure has impressed marks around the base: 'P MACDOWELL RA SCULPT. 1869', 'CERAMIC AND CRYSTAL PALACE ART UNION' and 'COPYRIGHT RESERVED COPELAND' with a letter code beneath.

Very good. There is a small shallow chip underneath the left side of the book and some fritting to the bottom edges of the figure.
