A large Copeland bust of Queen Victoria in Parian by Owen Hale for her Golden Jubilee 1887 (marking 50 years on the throne), marked Copeland Copyright Reserved. 35½cm (14”).
The bust is well modelled and shows the queen with her usual stern expression, wearing a delicate lace shawl. The back of the bust is in a more naturalistic , flowing, abstract style, anticipating Art Nouveau.
The bust is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 185 figure 610 and in Robert Copeland’s book “Parian - Copeland’s Statuary Porcelain” page 242, fig R21.
Condition Very good – there some tiny nicks on her right side of the headdress and shawl.
