A fine Parian figure of the Octoroon by Minton from the sculpture by John Bell with a green matt body and glazed highlights and a date mark for 1871. The original marble statue was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1868 and is now in Blackburn Town Hall, Lancashire, England.
A white Parian version of the figure is illustrated on page 82 of The Parian Phenomenon, fig 126. Several manufacturers made figures with coloured bodies and some are illustrated on page 6 of The Parian Phenomenon.
Height 43.5 cm (17”)
There would originally have been a Parian chain – these rarely survived. There is some slight rubbing to some of the green edges – please see photographs. Otherwise the figure is in excellent condition.
