A fine Parian bust of the engineer George Stephenson by Minton from the sculpture by Edward W Wyon. This bust has a separate socle and is marked C Delpech Redt. E W Wyon (Sc) 1858 Minton with a date code for 1863. It is illustrated on page 122 of The Parian Phenomenon, fig 440. Height 26.3cm (10.4”)
George Stephenson (1781 – 1848) is famed for his development of locomotives and for building much of the British Railway System. His son Robert was also a famous railway and civil engineer and the grandfather of the writer Robert Louis Stevenson.
This bust is in fine condition. There are a couple of faint short firing lines on the exposed chest - please see our photographs.
