£900.00 Approx $1192.05, €1058.82

A pair of Minton Parian figures of Comedy and Tragedy after John Bell, first sculpted in 1848.  Comedy smiles slightly as she relaxes on her tree stump, loosely holding some flowers, while Tragedy stares sadly upward.

These figures are not easy to come by, and we are pleased to be able to offer the pair.  Both pieces have the Minton ermine mark and a year mark for 1859 and are illustrated in the Parian Phenomenon page 66, fig 86 and 87.

Heights: Comedy 35cm.  (13.8”); Tragedy 38cm (15”)

Condition: Comedy is in very good condition with some small losses to the flowers at the base and possibly to a leaf in her hand. There is some kiln dust from the manufacturing process below her left wrist and hand, only visible from below. Otherwise excellent. Tragedy is also in very good condition with a burst bubble and associated chip at the front base and some firing lines.
