A Copeland Parian bust of Ophelia sculpted by Marshall, 1859 - 1875.
Ophelia, doomed lover of Hamlet in the play by Shakespeare, wears a headdress of wheat, ivy and flowers in this lovely bust sculpted by W Calder Marshall for the Crystal Palace Art Union. The bust is marked Ophelia W C Marshall Copeland, with Crystal Palace Art Union on the socle. The socle is attached by a nut and bolt.
The bust is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 181 figure 591.
