A large Minton Parian figure of Pandora. This figure was modelled by Albert Carrier de Belleuse and was first produced in 1851. The base is marked Minton together with the ermine mark and a difficult to read date code, possibly 1864. Height 45 cm (17.7").
In Greek mythology Pandora was the first human woman created by the gods. She is remembered for opening a box and releasing all the evils into the world. with only hope remaining in the box. This figure captures the moment of decision by Pandora to open the casket in her hand.
The tip of the little finger on Pandora's right hand is missing and there are two shallow chips to the foot. Please see our photographs.
