A Copeland Parian bust of Robert Peel

A fine Parian bust of Robert Peel by Copeland from the sculpture by James Westmacott published August 1850, and inscribed as such on the back.

Sir Robert Peel (1788 - 1850) was a British statesman who twice served as Prime Minister and is considered the father of the British Police Force. UK policemen were once referred to as “Peelers” and are still affectionately called “Bobbies”. This bust was exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851.

This bust is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 186 fig 615 and in Robert Copeland’s book “Parian - Copeland’s Statuary Porcelain” page 223 fig B63.

Condition:  Excellent.
