A good quality Copeland Parian figure of a reading girl, taken from a marble original which was placed in Bridgewater House, and sculpted by P Macdowell. This Parian version was commissioned by the Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union in 1869. The figure has impressed marks around the base: 'P MACDOWELL RA SCULPT. 1869', 'CERAMIC AND CRYSTAL PALACE ART UNION' and 'COPYRIGHT RESERVED COPELAND' with a letter code beneath. Height 33cm (13").
Condition: there is a shallow chip from the back of the base, with a tiny edge nick next to it (see images). No other damage and no restoration.
