Copeland Parian Dancing Girl Reposing

A beautiful, large figure of the Dancing Girl Reposing by Copeland, designed in 1846 and made for the Art Union of London 1848.  The elegant young woman is shown with exquisitely modelled flowers in her hair and right hand and holding a tambourine with castanet “bells” in her left hand. As well as the Copeland mark, the piece is marked for Marshall, the sculptor of the original marble (exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1848), and for Cheverton who reduced the statue for the porcelain factory. The Parian version was exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851.

Condition

The piece is in very good condition with just a firing fault below the garland running down to the base.
