SOLD

Code: 230504

A large Copeland Parian figure of Autumn from the sculpture by Malempré 1872 and marked “Copeland copyright reserved”. The additional mark “L 73” indicates that the Parian model was issued in July 1873.   The serene young woman carries a sheaf of wheat from the harvest interspersed with corn cockles (Agrostemma githago) in one hand and a sickle in the other. She wears ears of wheat and corn cockles in her hair.

This figure is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 149 fig 508 and in Robert Copeland’s book “Parian - Copeland’s Statuary Porcelain” page 123 fig S10.

Height: 50cm  (19¾ “)

Condition: This figure is in very good condition.  There is a firing fault at the rear base between the inscriptions, extending about 8cm upwards, and a short firing fault under the left ear. Close inspection shows a firing fault under the fold of the dress at the left waist.
