A Minton Parian figure of Ariadne and the Panther

A good Minton figure of Ariadne and the Panther by John Bell from the original life-sized marble (1812) by Dannecker. The figure shows Ariadne, who helped Theseus escape the Cretan Labyrinth, as the bride of Bacchus after she was abandoned by Theseus on the island of Naxos.

Dannecker’s figure was reproduced in full sized marble and bronze as well as in the smaller ceramic forms.

This figure is illustrated in the Parian Phenomenon p 64, Fig 80.

Condition

Firing cracks to base, belly of panther and front bottom of drapery (left). Small chips to rear corners. Otherwise this figure has its fingers, toes and ribbons complete and is in good condition.
