A J&T Bevington Parian bust of Humour or Comedy. Marked J&TB 294. Height: 25cm (9¾").
James and Thomas Bevington were in business making earthenware and porcelain from 1865 – 1878. Their Parian pieces are fairly rare. This charming young woman has a headdress of the mask of comedy and vine leaves and grapes. This bust could be a representation of Thalia, Muse of Comedy or Humour although Thalia is generally portrayed with ivy rather than grape vines.
Condition: This bust is in excellent condition. There is a faint firing line on her neck. The separate socle is attached to the bust with slip.
