A good-sized Parian figure of Launce and his dog Crab by Robinson and Leadbeater from the comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare. Marks: LAUNCE AND HIS DOG. This figure has no manufacturer’s marks but is by Robinson and Leadbeater. It is illustrated in the R & L photographic archive dating from the 1880s, page 55. The figure is finely modelled, particularly the faces of the man and the dog and the feathers in the hat. Height: 39½cm (15½“).
In the play, Launce is a significant character as the servant of Proteus, one of the two gentlemen.
Condition: This figure is in excellent condition.
