A good Parian bust of Robert Peel by Copeland from the sculpture by James Westmacott published August 1850.  Height 27cm (10½“).

Sir Robert Peel (1788 - 1850) was a British statesman who twice served as Prime Minister and is considered the father of the British Police Force. UK policemen were once referred to as “Peelers” and are still affectionately called “Bobbies”. This bust was exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851.

This bust is illustrated in the “Parian Phenomenon” page 186 fig 615 and in Robert Copeland’s book “Parian - Copeland’s Statuary Porcelain” page 223 fig B63.

Condition  Very good. There is a slight roughness to the rear edge of the bust under the Copeland name, and remnants of slip or plaster underneath the bust.
