A charming large figure of a woman bathing after Falconet

SOLD

Code: 290601

A charming large figure of a woman bathing after Falconet by an unknown manufacturer, 2nd half of C19.

This attractive figure (possibly “The Assisi Bather”) shows a young woman with bracelets seated on a rock, her right hand on her knee,  holding a washcloth in her left hand.

Étienne Maurice Falconet (1716 –1791) was a French sculptor, known mostly for his statue of Peter the Great on horseback in St. Petersburg. Several of his statues of nude bathers were reproduced in the nineteenth century in marble, bronze or Parian ware.

Height: 36cm (c. 14”)

Condition: Excellent. There is a faint firing line at the rear where the cloth meets the rock and some firing lines on the underside.
